It was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam of the band Boy Meets Girl, who had previously written the number-one Whitney Houston hit "How Will I Know". I mean, if you wrote me a number one hit song, I'd probably ask for another one too.

What a lot of people don't know is that the original arrangement was more of a country tune but was transformed into the dance song we know and love by Walden (the producer). Another great fact about this song is that it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 27, 1987 - which was the exact same day that Houston's album Whitney debuted at number one. This was the first time that this amazing feat was accomplished by a female artist (you go girl!).
